How to Build a Contact List

How to Build a Contact List

One of the most critical  parts of owning a business is to have customers. In order to have customers you need to start building your contact list. This list needs to be a living, breathing list that is continually growing day in and day out.

I like to think of a contact list as filling up your gas tank. When you go on a road trip the first stop you make is to the gas station to fill your tank up. Along your trip you stop to fill up your tank to make sure you get to your destination. The same thing goes with your direct sales company. As you start to grow your business and gain customers you need to be adding to your contact list in order to reach your destination with your company.

The best way to start your contact list is to start writing down everyone you know. Think family, friends, co-workers and associates. Now after you have those name down, I want you to start thinking outside of the box. If you are stuck about writing down names I want you to start making triggers for your brain. Think of it this way..

1. Name any nurses
2. Name anyone with children
3. Name anyone who could use the product you are selling
4. Name anyone who loves to fish
5. Name anyone who has dark hair
6. Name someone who is a dentist
7. Write down your friends from High School
8. Write down your college friends- sorority sisters ect
9. If your children play sports start writing down the other parents name or coaches.
10. Do you know anyone who has a pet
You get the idea. When you break it down into categories your brain is able to think of more and more names.

I like to tell my team that when they start their business they should start making a list of 100 people. I tell them to go and look at their Facebook friends list, look in their phone. I bet if I gave you $100 for each name you wrote down you could come up with over 100 names in one night. The same thing is with your business. Your contact list is a list of names who potentially could be retail customers, VIP customers, Market Partners or referral names.

As you start to grow your business and share the amazing opportunity and products with those on your list I want you to start creating and adding to your list.  Your list should never stop growing. You should be adding at least 2 names to it each and every day. Here are some ways you can add to your contact list.

1. Join Facebook Groups.
I don't mean just the direct sales group- these are great for networking but some of those groups tend to be spam. I like to join groups of things i enjoy and can relate to. I love dogs! So I personally am in a few dog groups. I start to build relationships with others in those groups and one way or another Monat (my DS business) always pops up.

2. Out Shopping
I am sure at least one day of the week you are at the store. Why not strike up a conversation when you are in line. I always like to compliment the person in front or behind me. Ask them how their day is - what they do for a living and BAM there is my opportunity to tell them I am a Network Marketing Professional who gets paid to wash her hair!

3. Coffee Shop
4. Library
5. The dreaded DMV
6. Vendor Shows

You get the idea. People are everywhere! But it is your job to introduce yourself and share the business with others.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Now go out there! Start making your list! Stay tuned to how to use your contact list to work your business!
